I know, it’s random but so am I…

Anyway, what’s up y’all?  Welcome back to DoubleFML FatDarrellPalooza!

Aside from being random, I’m also hungry, so let’s jump right into a taste test, shall we?

Several weeks ago, after a failed attempt to meet my friend Sydnei Bacon (who’s last name always brings a smile to my face and a rumble to my stomach…ps.  Happy Birthday Sydnei!) at Atlanta Carnival, I ended up stopping at a bootleg ghetto gas station in the middle of nowhere on the way home.

I’d been stuck in traffic for hours, missed the event and missed out on hanging with Sydnei Bacon (yes, I’m going to type her full name every single time…bacon, bacon, bacon!). 

Now to top things off, I was stuck replacing the wasted fuel I burned at a filthy gas station I was likely to be stabbed at. 

Okay, well maybe not stabbed.  I rocked my “pimp walk” and “crazy eyes” expression the entire time so I’d blend in (hey, when in Rome…). 

But still, even if I wouldn’t be stabbed there, I definitely wasn’t going to use the bathroom or anything.  The door handles looked a little “Hep-C-ish.”

Anyway, once I went inside to pre-pay for my gas, the heavens parted and I finally realized why I was led to this godforsaken building that day. 

On an endcap right next to the Black and Mild cigarettes and suspect Chinese boner pills was an entire display full of snacks featuring several modern-day rap stars!

How cool is that?!

I found 4 featuring Cardi B, 1 Fetty Wap, 1 Lil Boosie and they had 2 Migos flavors but I only spotted the second flavor as I was leaving and there was no way I was going to risk running my credit card there a second time! 

Besides, each bag was $1.29 and while I love you all, a review of 7 flavors should be enough to figure out if it’s worth seeking out the rest later.

According to the official Rap Snacks website, there are actually 4 Migos flavors though.  Plus 2 from Trina, 2 from Lil Yachty and another from Romeo Miller! 

Of course, if you haven’t heard of any of these artists, you might just want to stick to saltines, Wheat Thins and regular snacks….gramps.

As for why they’re mostly southern artists, the company is based out of Locust Grove, Georgia so that makes sense now. 

I’d love to see these expanded to include Jay-Z, Biggie and Pac or something, but these are still a fun idea.  I need to hurry up and put out that album I’ve been talking about…I want chips too!  They’d pair well with The Fat Darrell Sandwich.

Anyway, without further ado, let’s dig into the 7 flavors that I did manage to find, shall we?!

I think I’ll start off with the Cardi B flavors since I’ve been fantasizing about how good Cardi B tastes since day 1.

Copy Editor:  Whoa, whoa, wait up Darrell, I think you made a typo there.

Me:  Huh?  Where?

Copy Editor:   You typed that you’ve “been fantasizing about how good Cardi B tastes” when it should have read “you’ve been fantasizing about how good Cardi B CHIPS taste” instead!

Me:  I said what I said… okurrrr. 😜

Anyway, let’s try these, eh?  First up…

Cardi B Cheddar Bar-B-Que potato chips: Ayyyy, I don’t know if I’m just starving or what, but these are FYE (that’s slang for fire which is slang for um “really good” if you’re in need of an urban dictionary).  These could legitimately give Lays a run for the money!  You can taste plenty of sharp cheddar cheese and smokey BBQ.  Wow, I expected these to be mostly a gimmick but lacking in flavor so I’m pleasantly surprised!  If I didn’t have 6 more flavors to get through, I’d finish the entire bag right now!  These get a thumbs up from me!  We’re off to a great start… Next!

Cardi B Habanero Hot Cheese Popcorn:  Okay, at first it just tasted like regular cheese popcorn but now I feel that habanero kick!  It’s nice though.  It’s a smooth heat but rich in flavor so you still taste the cheese too.  Hot and rich…just like Cardi.  Again, thumbs up!  And again, don’t shoot me Offset!  

Cardi B Honey Drip Butter Popcorn:  Oh wow, I’m so greedy that I didn’t even read all of the bags.  I thought these were all potato chips but here’s another popcorn entry and wow, again, another winner!  This tastes just like movie theater popcorn with just the right amount of butter!  Whoever this company is, they sure know their flavors!  I seriously want to finish all 3 of these bags already…which I may need to do anyway since I don’t think I have 7 chip clips…  anyway, yeah, NEXT!

Cardi B Jerk BBQ Wavy Potato Chips:  Ah, this one seems fitting since I found these chips after missing out on Atlanta Carnival with Sydnei Bacon (yes, every time…BACON!).  Let’s see if Cardi’s flavors can go 4 for 4… before I even taste these, I have to say, they smell delicious already.  But we’re not reviewing air fresheners here so let’s see how they taste… Okay, I may need a quick palette cleanser since the flavors are starting to run into each other but I see what they’re going for here.  I like these a lot too so 4 for 4!  It’s like BBQ but with an extra kick…and the after taste really does remind me of Caribbean jerk.  Caribbean jerk as in the seasoning, not to be confused with my old boss who was also a Caribbean jerk.  These are also way less salty than he was too… anyway, let’s try these Migos chips next!

Migos Bar-B-Quin With My Honey With a DAB of Ranch chips:  Ha, these names are great aren’t they?  Here’s hoping that I like these chips too because the last thing I want to do is give Offset’s flavor a bad review after blatantly hitting on his wife in the previous paragraphs!  I’m an honest reviewer though so either way you’ll get the truth!  With that said, here goes nothing… Thankfully they’re good…..really good!  I seriously do need to look into the company that makes these because the flavors are all bold and ridiculously accurate.  They literally taste like honey BBQ chips with a dab of ranch!  I’m impressed.  5 bags in and they each have a unique distinct flavor.

Lil Boosie’s Louisiana Heat Wavy Potato Chips:  He may be called Lil Boosie but these chips are big on flavor and big in size.  I don’t know if every bag is like this but the first 2 chips were huge!  They were like 4 inches across!  I’m greedy though so I loved it….whoa…and here comes the heat.  Okay, these are seriously hot.  They’re still smooth enough to taste all of the flavors but there’s a much bigger kick to these so if you’re not used to hot and spicy foods, this one may be a bit much for you.  As for me, it’s another thumbs up!  6 for 6.

Last but not least we have…

Fetty Wap Honey Jalapeno chips: Oh yeah, okay 7 for 7.  These are also as advertised.  Honey, jalapeno, delicious. 

I don’t want to give myself a stomach ache so I may just finish the popcorn options and one of the chips for now.

What’s that?  Invite a friend over to try some too?  Hahahaha um, no.  I don’t share my food. 

Okay, well maybe I’d share them with Sydnei Bacon…but only because it’s her birthday.

But yeah, if you couldn’t tell, I absolutely LOVED all of these!  …and not just because of the hip-hop artists associated with them.  I’d eat these even if Tom from Myspace was on the bag instead.

That’s not an exaggeration, Rap Snacks makes some quality stuff!  I may have to find the rest of the flavors now…but hopefully at a different gas station or convenience store next time! 

Actually, the factory is nearby so maybe I’ll drop by in person.  Skrrt Skrrt…

These first photos are from my time working with the Mercedes Benz Stadium Live Events Team at The Atlanta Falcons mini Training Camp.  My role for that event was to escort our VIP attendees around on this 8-seater golf cart.  I picked the red one of course.  Skrrrt Skrrrt indeed.

It took a little getting used to, but once I got the hang out it, I’m proud to say that I only curbed it once.  Or at least that’s my story and I’m sticking to it… hey, at least nobody fell out so I consider that a win!

I also joined The Atlanta Hawks Flight Crew at our NBA Draft Party which was buzzing with energy since The Hawks made some solid moves and appear to be building something special.  I could easily see them making the playoffs next season if things continue to fall into place!  Exciting times in The ATL.

I also worked several stagehand production gigs for Live Nation / House of Blues since the last post.

The most recent concert was headlined by Reel Big Fish and Bowling For Soup who were celebrating 25 years in the industry! 

If you’re a longtime reader, you may have seen me reference my friend Sasha J in a few dozen posts.  Well, I had no idea she was such a huge fan of those groups or that she’d be in attendance, so it was a huge surprise when she arrived with her friend Alex (pictured on the left)!

The bands were kind enough to hook me up with guitar picks, the set list and autographs to give them so it was a really great night!

Hip-hop legends Eric B and Rakim will also be in town a few weeks from now so I’ll have to bother my manager to see if I can work that event too! 

I’d bribe her with Cardi B Honey Drip Buttered Popcorn but I just finished the entire bag…whoops.

Anyway, that’s enough workplace show and tell.  I’d better eat some regular food with actual nutrients before I get sick.  With that said, let’s wrap this up.  DJ, cue the music!
