Anyway, what’s up everybody? Welcome back to #DoubleFML FatDarrellPalooza! So did you see the big fight over the weekend? Oh wait, I forgot, it’s 2017 and people get offended and argue over everything nowadays so perhaps I should specify which fight I’m referring to.

I was talking about the huge megafight between all-time boxing great, Floyd Mayweather and MMA champion Connor McGregor. If you haven’t heard about this super-fight by now, please share what it’s like living under a rock in the comments below…

For the rest of us, I felt that the main event actually lived up to the hype this time! That’s refreshing considering that I wanted to shoot the TV after the last “megafight” Mayweather was a part of with former champion Manny Pacquiao several years ago. That fight had more stalling and awkward hugging than a middle school homecoming dance… this however, was action packed from the very start!

Again, let me specify, I mean action packed from the very start of the main event. The undercard was pretty brutal for a mainstream audience. It’s too bad that Laila Ali retired already because a women’s match may have spiced things up a bit. Instead we got several skippable matches that probably looked better on paper.

Anyway, once the main event actually started (around midnight), we got all the expected bells and whistles. We got McGregor draped in the Irish flag rallying his green army and Mayweather wearing some bank robber Michael Jackson ‘bring out the gimp’ looking outfit.

Surprisingly, that wasn’t the worst looking ring attire of the evening though as undercard fighter Gervonta Davis rocked this Cookie Monster looking hood to the ring earlier that night.  Hopefully no Muppets were actually harmed during the assembly of this getup…

Before the big fight, we were also treated to an amazing rendition of the national anthem from the highly underrated Demi Lovato. Kudos to her and to whoever made that white dress she had on…oh my.

Once the fight got started, McGregor put up a really good fight for the first few rounds. Granted, Mayweather was feeling him out a bit, but McGregor still landed nearly 30 more punches than Manny Pacquiao managed to so that’s still pretty impressive considering it was his professional boxing debut!

Between his jab, angles and constantly switching stances, McGregor easily won the first half of the fight. From there however, Mayweather began to press the gas until the referee was forced to stop the onslaught in the 10th round.

While I initially thought the fight may have been stopped prematurely, it probably would have ended 30 seconds or so later anyway since McGregor was clearly in survival mode when the fight was called. Still, both men can hold their heads up high (or pay someone to hold their head up for them since they each made a bazillion dollars for that fight!) since they put on an amazing show.

If you scroll to the bottom of my last post, you’ll see that I called that fight correctly (a few of you still owe me money lol you know who you are…cash me outside) but I still didn’t think it would be as competitive as it was! I have nothing against McGregor.

 

 

Actually, I think he’s really entertaining, I just didn’t think he’d be able to hang inside of a boxing ring since his training background is in mixed martial arts. If it were an MMA match, I would have chosen him easily but the boxing ring is Floyd’s yard.

Both are polarizing and controversial figures so it may surprise many people that I’m still a fan of much that they bring to the table. Personal lives aside, there are some pretty admirable lessons to be learned from each of their careers.

If you weren’t too busy shoving nachos into your face to pay attention to the prefight commentary, you would have heard that McGregor was on welfare less than 5 years ago! Regardless of your personal feelings about the man, going from government assistance to the richest payday in combat sports is an incredible feat!

He also lasted 10 rounds with a man who is one of the greatest boxers of all time (*his record may be the best but I can’t call him the GOAT since comparing him to Tyson or Ali would be like comparing apples to oranges). More importantly, he believed that he could hang in that boxing ring despite never having done so before despite all of the critics and naysayers who doubted him. He may not have won the match, but he won a lot of respect with that performance! Obviously, it’s a lot easier to take risks when the reward is $100 million even if you lose, but still, having the courage to step outside of your comfort zone and dream big is admirable either way.

 

On Mayweather’s side, sure he’s cocky but they both are! He backs it up in the ring though and 50 wins with no losses is impressive no matter how you slice it. The amount of dedication to stay at the top for over a decade is awe inspiring.

Sure, Floyd is a boxer so he should always be favored in a boxing match, but he was still 11 years older, shorter and significantly lighter than his more aggressive opponent so give the man credit for his performance as well! Love him or hate him, he’s a shrewd businessman and marketer on top of being a world class athlete. While most boxers retire broke and incoherent, his legacy will last for decades to come due to his promotions company and investment decisions.

Some purists may say that the spectacle of this fight was bad for boxing but I strongly disagree. How often does mainstream media discuss this sport otherwise? Again, congratulations to both competitors for a great match and for taking combat sports to new heights!

So where did you watch the fight (if you watched that is…)? I was fortunate enough to have been invited to my buddy David’s house where his 4 dogs were drawn to me like moths to a flame. Seriously, one curled up and fell asleep on my lap while the other 3 kept coming over to me no matter where I was in the house!

The same thing happened when I visited my friend Kim last year. Her 2 dogs were all over me the entire time like I was the dog whisperer or something.

Actually, those are just a few examples but this happens everywhere. I can’t explain it. Perhaps I smell like kibble? I did refer to myself as a delicious steak last post after all. Hmm…

If I weren’t a straight male, I’d go with the Snow White in the woods analogy but seriously, animals are always drawn to me for some reason. Babies are too actually. Which is ironic because I don’t have any pets and I don’t have any kids.

I’ve been told that it means I have good energy and a positive aura or something so I’m not complaining, it’s just funny that’s all.

Even funnier is that I used to be deathly afraid of dogs (and drowning, so my worst nightmare would have been a dog in a pool back in the day…), especially after being chased by one on the way to school back in the day. In hindsight, I suppose that dog may not have been trying to bite me, but instead perhaps he couldn’t resist my irresistable charms lol. Now if I can figure out how to apply this same “animal magnetism” to women eh?

After taste-testing the Swedish Fish ones in this blog several months ago, I swore off trying any more random new flavors they came out with but when I saw these, I couldn’t resist! As for the taste, they aren’t bad. It definitely tastes like peanut butter and jelly but the original Oreo has set the standard so high that I don’t think I’ll ever be as impressed by another flavor as I am with the OG’s. Like I said in the Swedish Fish post, I’m a purist when it comes to my Oreos I suppose. Just give me regular ones and an ice cold glass of milk and I’m good. No crazy flavors necessary. Still, these aren’t bad but if you want to try them you’d better hurry, like most of these wild flavors, they’ll only be around for a limited time.

This one is funny since people complain about obvious weather conditions but it was actually cold enough to justify a jacket yesterday…in August?!  Geez…that escalated quickly!

Here are a few of those “thought provoking memes”… this first one is tough.  Wow, I’m sure everyone expects me to pick The Batmobile but I’d actually choose K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider! 

That black Trans Am looks better than the old model Batmobile, but would lose out to the newer models. 

Knight Rider was one of my favorite shows back in the day though!  It doesn’t hold up quite as well in reruns since technology has come so far but I’d still take the old school version of the show over the reboot they tried a few years ago.  

I actually used to love most of these.  The Dukes of Hazzard used to come on right before Knight Rider and A-Team followed it so that was an action packed night lol. 

Oh yeah, speaking of the Dukes, did you hear that the guy who played Luke Duke was arrested recently?  How awesome would it have been if the arresting officer was Roscoe P. Coletrain?  Anyway, I digress, which vehicle would you pick?  Comment below!

This next one is easy since I did an entire blog post on foods I didn’t like (you can check it out here….I still need to do part 2!).  While I pardoned a few of them, one that remains on the banned list is green olives.  Ugh….so gross lol sorry Sasha J!  What’s your pick?  Comment below…

Ha, this first one is true!  If you just have socks on that does feel extra naked for some reason lol.  I suppose it’s because it’s in between being naked and dressed so something just feels off.  Ha, Ron has a point…a strange point, but a point nonetheless lol.

If you saw my petition to celebrate Halloween a second time in May, then you already know I’m loving this wreath!  I’m also loving the fact that stores have already broken out the costumes and candy aisles! Tis the season…

This next one indirectly happened to me the other day!  I was craving wings and fries the entire day but was trying to resist the craving.  I went to a local take-out place later that evening to pick up dinner and there were the wings and fries staring at me on the menu.  I resisted the temptation though and ordered some brown rice, chicken and veggies but when I got home, I realized they have given me the wrong order which ended up being….yep, you guessed it:  Wings and fries.  lol see kids?  Dreams really do come true…
